THE BRAVEHEART METHODOLOGY FOR FRENCH AND BILINGUAL LEARNING
The same Braveheart principles guide both learning streams, while adapting to the different demands of French language development and bilingual academic and professional work.
The instructor starts with storytelling designed to spark the learner’s intuition. The learner then develops the understanding necessary to confidently take the next step.
In language learning, this means beginning with something the learner can understand, hear, recognize, or use in context before formalizing the underlying structure. In bilingual subject work, it means beginning with the concept itself—its intuitive meaning, historical context, visual representation, or familiar form—before introducing the terminology and conventions needed to express it confidently in another language.
In both streams, complex learning is developed in the Plain Language of Understanding, one meaningful step at a time. We move forward with a Green Light from the learner when understanding is secure, connect words and representations to their underlying meaning, and gradually reduce support as confidence and independence grow.
THE LEARNER DOES THE THINKING
The learner performs the analysis, develops the reasoning, and takes the steps that lead to understanding, expression, or solution in their own voice. The instructor guides the process without replacing the learner’s intellectual work, and checks for the learner’s Green Light before moving forward.
The goal is not simply a correct answer or a polished response, but lasting understanding, confidence, mastery, and independence.
